MOSQUITO FACTS

Female mosquitos have preference on blood type. Type O is their favorite as there salvia can really thin it down to get a full blood meal
Mosquito’s are lazy, cannot not fly very far and typically live within yards of where they were hatched
Males stay within 10-15 feet of where they are hatched, feeding on the bottom side of vegetation waiting for females to fertilize their eggs. The swarms of male mosquitos are commonly confused with gnats
Only female mosquitos bite
A female mosquito will spend most of her life hanging out in the shade on the bottom side of vegetation feeding on nectar
When a female smells carbon monoxide and senses heat, they seek out the blood meal in order to lay 100-300 fertilized eggs at a time, up to 10 times during their life cycle
After a female acquires a blood meal she can yield over 45k mosquitos in her 2nd generation, over 6 million in 3rd generation, and over 1.3 billon by 4th generation
A bottle cap full of water can hold 100 mosquito eggs or more
The warmer the water the faster the mosquito larva hatch
Females lay eggs in standing water or on the edge of standing water
Mosquitos are the deadliest animal in the world responsible for more deaths every year than any other animal
Pregnant women are more prone to mosquito bites as their body temperature is typically warmer
Since 1970 the MMCD (Metropolitan Mosquito Control district) reported that approximately 2/3 cases of LAC (LaCrosse Encephalitis Viral Disease) primarily of children have been from the Lake Minnetonka eastern Carver county area
